** June 9, 2009:  A second scrapbook has been scanned into the system, covering 1931 through 1955.  There are summaries from the tournament organizers of what to do and not do, financial reports, copies of the programs including advertisements.
The ongoing project to create a library of information concerning the history of the National Archery Association continues. Ron Carmichael is scanning (digitizing) scrapbooks of past events, starting about the year 1911 and moving forward in time.  The first scrapbook had fantastic photos of a variety of US champions, as well as descriptions of tournaments and shoots. An index page has been created at this link.(remove the AT s in the address before sending)   More documents and photos will be added as time goes on.

You are encouraged to share your scrapbooks, photos, or documents concerning *any* part of our organization's history!  Please contact Ron Carmichael at this email address.

NEW RECORDS ADDITION:   Record Claims from the National Indoor Championships have been processed and posted. View New Records Processed Recently

10/11/2007: THIS IS AN EXPANSION/EXPLANATION OF RECORD CLAIM OPPORTUNITIES, BASED ON INFORMATION OBTAINED FROM FITA:
An archer, properly registered for a tournament, may legitimately claim ANY record for which the score he/she shot exceeds an existing record, even if the record is in a higher division.

For example, a cadet who shoots an indoor 600 round score that exceeds the existing record score of the Junior (or Senior) division may claim that record as well as the cadet division record.
Also, if the archer registers "up" one or more divisions yet still exceeds the record for his/her natural divsion (ie, a cadet registers as a JUNIOR and shoots a score that exceeds the existing cadet record for the distance shot) may lay legitimate claim to the cadet record even though the archer did not compete in that lower division during the tournament.
Likewise, if an archer is old enough/qualified to compete as a Master 50+, and shoots a score that ties or exceeds an existing SENIOR record score, that archer can then claim that SENIOR record as well as the Master 50+ record, simply by executing properly the claim form process

IN ALL CASES IT IS INCUMBENT UPON THE ARCHER TO FILE A PROPERLY COMPLETED CLAIM FORM, FOR ALL RECORDS TIED/BROKEN, WITHIN THE 10 DAYS AFTER THE COMPLETION OF THE EVENT.

Indoor    Updated 03/15/07

Outdoor    `Updated 08/20/07

The Outdoor Traditional Championship is held annually during the weekend just prior to the National Championship and Indoor Traditional is held concurrently to the National Indoor Championships.   Archers in this event use gear that harkens to the early days of archery - Traditional longbows, Modern Longbows, and the relatively new Traditional Recurves all are bare of the modern devices - stabilizers, sights, plungers, clickers and the like are all absent. There is no age grouping - all records are considered shot as "senior".

National Championship Records
    Indoor     Updated 04/14/09
    Outdoor (Includes Clout)     Updated 09/30/09

These (National Championship) records can only be achieved at the National Indoor & Outdoor Championships.  A score shot at the National Championship may be a National Championship record, but not necessarily a Star FITA record. If a score shot at the National Championships exceeds a Star FITA record then it is considered the record score in both files. Any score that is a World Record (by an NAA member) is by definition a U.S. Star FITA record.

Star FITA Records
    Indoor     Updated 11/20/09
    Outdoor     Updated 11/20/09

These (Star FITA) records can only be achieved at events properly registered either with USA Archery or any other FITA-recognized organization as a "Star" FITA tournaments.  Star FITA Records include any scores shot by U.S. archers (NAA members) anywhere in the world. So if a U.S. archer shoots a record at a European Grand Prix or World Championship, it should be listed in our Star FITA Records. It does not have to be limited to events within the U.S. or sanctioned only by the NAA. Also, no JOAD score can be a Star FITA record unless the tournament was registered as a STAR event through the USA Archery offices. Note that not all of the JOAD divisions designated by USA Archery are recognized by FITA, and for those there can be no "World Records".

JOAD National Records
Please note that "JOAD" is not a FITA standard, and  only those JOAD tournaments that have been registered as STAR FITA events with the USA Archery  can sustain Star FITA record claims. For those divisions that are not recognized by FITA for world records (ie, Bowman), USA Archery will still monitor excellence in performance and honor record claims as long as the record claims are submitted according to existing guidelines.   This paragraph has been clarified and updated as of August 9, 2009.

    Indoor     Updated 04/15/09
    Outdoor     Updated 08/18/09

These records can only be achieved at the JOAD Indoor & Outdoor National Championships
*Note: To be recognized for a record, the archer must be a current NAA member at the beginning of the event.

FLIGHT Records *Updated 6/20/2009 with records from the 2008 event

Flight archery is distance shooting - how FAR can an arrow be shot? Some of the distances are astonishing!

Retired Records  - The USA Archery/NAA no longer conducts competitions for these records.     Updated 09/26/06

All records are subject to verification.  Record Claims sent to the USA Archery office for consideration MUST have a completed "NAA Record Claim Form" (updated 3/6/2007) and a legible copy of the archer's scorecard.  The scorecard MUST have been signed by a recognized tournament official (preferably the director of shooting or else the head judge, or both).

A printable Certificate of Accomplishment, in the form of an Adobe Acrobat file, will be emailed to the archer at the email address entered on the claim form. Use this link to download a free copy of Acrobat Reader if you do not have one.

If you find an error on these pages, or find an omission (i.e., we left your record out) then send the above-mentioned documents in to the office again and the database and webpages will be updated with your record.   We apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.  ILLEGIBLE/UNSIGNED SCORECARDS MAY PREVENT YOU FROM RECEIVING PROPER RECOGNITION OF YOUR ACHIEVEMENT.
